Are you searching for purpose in your life? Do you have dreams and desires that you wish to see to fruition? Are you at a crossroads and wondering what direction to go in? If any of these questions are lying on your heart, then listen up! God has a plan for you.
Most all of us want to have a fulfilling life. We want to be able to look back and say that we lived each day to the fullest and left our mark on this world. God put us on this earth at this time and place for a purpose. But some of us might be asking what our purpose is. In order for us to realize God’s will for our lives we have to give over of ourselves COMPLETELY to Him. Obedience. That’s all He asks of us. To some this is a simple process. To others it may seem incomprehensible. Walk it out. Each day make sure to take time to be with God. Read His Word, pray for direction, and above all give Him praise for His blessings and grace. Once you have created that space in your life for Him to work He will! Go to Him for even the small things. The more you involve Him in your day to day activities, the more you open yourself up to His blessing and divine favor on your life.
Many times we get in the way of allowing God to work. This has been something with which I have struggled. My pride says I should take charge and go after what I want, but every time I have jumped into something without first turning to God I have ended up creating a bigger mess and being more confused than before I started. I cannot count the number of times I have done this. It has only been recently that I have started to understand what it means to surrender to God. I have sung about it, read about it, and listened to sermons on it, but I did not completely put it in to practice until the last couple of years. I found myself struggling between societal “truths” and God’s divine truth. The best way I can explain it is that I would walk out my life as I saw fit until I came upon an obstacle. Only then would I turn to God in prayer about direction and guidance. Do not misunderstand. I would pray daily for many things, but I later realized I was praying for myself and what I wanted rather than what God wanted for me. I later realized surrendering is a total and complete act of the heart, mind, body, and soul. I started to walk out this surrender by thanking and praising Him. And once I gave over to praising Him my heart opened so wide and His Holy Spirit just poured love all over me. It was like a new beginning. I was filled with such joy and such renewed energy. I did not want to stop worshipping Him. I thanked God over and over for His many blessings in my life. Eventually, all I could focus on was the many blessings He had bestowed upon me throughout my lifetime. Even the seemingly devastating events were turned into blessings. My heart began opening to the awesome wonders of God. I began seeking His Word with a renewed zeal. My prayers changed from asking God for what I wanted to asking God to pour out His Spirit so that I may become closer to Him and learn to discern what He wants for my life. I started seeking God for even the most trivial things, like which direction should I go to the store, in order to practice giving it all to God.
